The Music Of Afromantra To The Big Screen

by AfroMantra Productions.

The music of the New York based Latin Jazz Experimental ensemble, AfroMantra, from its critically acclaimed CD "Uplifting Spirit" is feature in the new large documentary by Frank Rodriguez and Pedro Ruiz, "Animal Tropical à Montréal", this new documentary is devoted to one of the most controversial Cuban writers living in Cuba, Pedro Juan Gutiérrez. I am very proud and honored of being part of the soundtrack of Animal Tropical à Montréal says the leader, drummer and composer of AfroMantra, Alex García, from his apartment at Hell's Kitchen in New York City.

I most definitely consider this a real honor! this documentary is very well done! is interesting, fun, controversial and portraits the philosophy and the life of this important and daring Cuban writer, his books have been published in more than twenty countries and translated to eighteen languages! paradoxically, his work in Cuba has not been published and is virtually unknown for most of the people in the island.

Another reason that makes me feel honored is to share the soundtrack of the film with worldwide known composers and musicians like Paquito D'Rivera.

Without any doubt this is a great opportunity for my band AfroMantra to be more exposed in the world of films, even though the concept of my band is still intended for Jazz festivals and concerts, as a matter of fact, it is what we have been doing for the last six years, the music that I write is very visual and a movie seems to serve also, as a perfect vehicle to express myself.

The World Premier of Animal Tropical à Montréal was on August, 29th 2007 at Le Festival Des Films Du Monde and is programmed to appear at 1ER PREMIO NACIONAL DE CINE DOCUMENTAL DOCUMENTA 2007 in Caracas, Venezuela 14-27 Sept.
