| Tampere Jazz Happening 1.-4.11.2007 Tampere Jazz Happening will offer a wonderful series of concerts performed by 20 top line-ups, which arrive from all over the world to heat up the Finnish November. The programme for the 26th highly esteemed event is now published. This year the audience will get the chance to enjoy two legendary jazz drummers. Interesting detail is that they both played in John Coltrane Quintet in 1966. Jack DeJohnette's Ripple Effect project with John Surman combines African jazz, reggae and the wonderful vocals by the Brazilian singer Marlui Miranda. Rashied Ali Quintet is very diverse in age and background. The Central European line-ups include Trio Braam DeJoode Vatcher, composed of the most idiosyncratic and delightful musicians from the Netherlands, and the Swiss Nik Bärtsch's Ronin, which creates impressive music by minimal means. The Acoustic Triangle from the UK plays sensitive jazz, always acoustically, whereas the edgy Polar Bear from the same country detonates the moods from one extreme to another. The reed trio Sonore brings together three leading voices in contemporary improvised music; Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark and Peter Brötzmann. In addition, we shall host the free jazz pianist Matthew Shipp's trio from the US with the brilliant bassist William Parker. There is the chance to enjoy wonderful female jazz singing too. Erica Stucky & Roots of Communication take the listeners to a trip from the yodling Alps to the urban sounds, through the worlds of pop, jazz and folk music. The Danish Marilyn Mazur's Percussion Paradise comprises five energetic women, percussions and vocals. We shall also see the recent documentary film on Mazur by Christian Braad Thomsen. After midnight the going will get intense at Klubi. Hazmat Modine, one of the most original line-ups from NY will offer something totally unforeseen! The Neil Cowley piano trio plays original, very easily accessible jazz. The young and brave JazzKamikaze and the freely improvising Swedish-Norwegian Sten Sandell Trio represent Scandinavian jazz in an excellent way. Verneri Pohjola, with his line-up, plays music by Miles Davis and also takes part in an interesting project Aurora organized by the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE. Other Finnish talents include MarkusHolkkoQuartet and Pepa Päivinen Quartet. Petri Nieminen Ensemble and Black Motor will perform great jazz directly from Tampere.
