Dan Mahar Releases 'Long Stone's Throw' CD

Dan Mahar, a Sioux Falls bluesman, will be releasing his new album nationally, August 21st on White Smoke Records. A former Nashville sideman and session player, Dan is most known for his years of touring with Country Music Star Billy Dean.

Dan Mahar cut his teeth on the South Side of Chicago, aspiring to the likes of Magic Sam, Luther Allison, Otis Rush, and other purveyors of the "Westside Sound" of Chicago Blues.

Playing clubs on famous Lincoln Ave, Mahar had the privilege of sitting in with many of his idols, including Buddy Guy, Jimmy Johnson, Chicago Slim, and many more of Chicago's finest bluesmen.

The late 70's ushered in the disco era and with that, most of Chicago's blues scene all but withered away. It was then that Mahar fled Chicago to the quiet serene of Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he formed the group, Fast Eddie. FE was comprised of former members of one of Chicago's most respected and successful blues-rock trios called Chicago Fast Eddie. FE entertained clubs throughout the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, and Minnesota for several years, but the band never realized Dan's dream for national success.

In 1987, Dan was driving through Nashville when an old friend invited him to attend a writer's night at the world-famous Bluebird Cafe. Shortly thereafter, Dan decided to chase his musician and songwriting dreams to Music City, USA, where he quickly befriended an artist named Billy Dean. Dean, who had recently signed a deal with Capital Records, was looking to fill a band leader/guitarist slot for an upcoming tour. Dan auditioned, won the slot and for the next four years, Dan toured both nationally and internationally with Dean, making appearances on the Tonight Show, Austin City Limits, The Grand Ole Opry, and many other national radio and television programs.

Dan's new album "Long Stone's Throw" is a return to his true love, the blues. "Long Stone's Throw" features a variety of top musicians, including Andy Most and Chris Brown.

Dan will return to Nashville for his CD release to be held Wednesday August 22nd at The Basement. Show starts at 6pm. Dan we be fronting an all-star band including Johnny Neel, Grammy nominated keyboard artist formally with the Allman Brothers Band.
