| Chuck Prophet To Play Sweetwater Saloon's On August 31, Bay Area icon Chuck Prophet will be the last artist to play at Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley, CA, which is closing after over thirty years as a Bay area musical institution. Elvis Costello and Jerry Garcia once jammed together in the room. The list of other musicians who have played at the venerable pub is astonishing, including Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, The Flying Burrito Brothers, J.J. Cale, and Big Brother & The Holding Co. The BBC once taped a special on John Lee Hooker and Hot Tuna recorded a live album at the club. Chuck Prophet is an underground American rock & roll veteran, from his years in Green On Red to his new solo album 'Soap and Water' (Oct. 2/Yep Roc). Prophet has performed at Sweetwater several times dating back over a decade. Prophet said, "Another gig that belongs on the historic registry of classic bars, just can't make the scene in the world of white hot real estate, $800.00 baby strollers and imported Range Rovers. We'll be closing down the joint for good on August 31st. We've always had fun playing the Sweetwater. Even if you've never been there, you'll miss it when it's gone. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
