Mina Agossi - Who Wants Love?

Mina Agossi, the darling of the French jazz scene who has been selling out concerts in major cities across Europe, returns to US in support of her third release on London-based Candid Records, Who Wants Love? out on August 21, 2007. The “gifted chanteuse“ (Washington Post) will kick off the tour with a special one-night performance at Scullers in Boston and will hit New York City (Jazz Standard), Tanglewood Jazz Festival, African Festival of the Arts Chicago, Minneapolis, and Columbia College, IL.

The greatest introduction to Mina Agossi is to witness her perform live. Mina's music has always been suited, and to some extent created, for the live environment. Who Wants Love? beautifully captures Mina and her band's innovative and powerful live show.

“Working with just bass [Eric Jacot] and drums [Ichiro Onoe], gives me the freedom to improvise as I wish, not bound by the chords on the piano,” Mina explains. It is this freedom that allows her to display the fresh and original style for which she is becoming known for. She is “that beautiful, dangerous thing, a jazz heretic“ (Boston Globe) who loves Jimi Hendrix and Thelonious Monk, Carmen McRae and other jazz greats, but has no interest in copying them. Her attack on the American Songbook gives young listeners an avenue into jazz and to the older, diehard fans, it offers a refreshing alternative--take it or leave it, love it or hate it, Mina Agossi is electrifying.

Who Wants Love? was recorded live at the Jazz Standard during Mina's 2006 US tour behind the critically acclaimed release, Well You Needn't, an album of the year pick for both The Boston Globe and The London Sunday Times.
