| Victoria Rummler to Play Paris' Bab-ilo by Louis Mozam ![]() Dark, small and cozy, the Bab-ilo recently opened a new non-smoking bar and stage downstairs, providing jazz aficionados with an even more comfortable setting to hear some of the finest musicians innovate and improvise. One never knows who might show up – world-famous French actor Fabrice Luchini was once spotted there enjoying the laid-back atmosphere. Sax player Stéphane Spira and guitarist William Chabbey are just two of the many jazz greats who have graced the Bab-ilo – and if you listen carefully, you can hear the faraway strains of Chet Baker's trumpet. A lifelong fan of Paris, Baker's sound and style embody the Bab-ilo ambiance. Starting at 9:30 p.m., Vicki will polish her new material and perform her all-time crowd favorites. "I've been playing the Bab-ilo ever since I came to Paris, " says Rummler. "Something about the intimacy of it, and (owner) Hamid's wry sense of humor, keep the music real, proving you don't need bright lights and a huge band to get your message across. And I'm always surprised who shows up!" Victoria Rummler, a glass of wine and your closest friends at the Bab-ilo on October 13th - just another great night in Paris waiting to happen. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
