Anat Cohen at Newport Jazz Festival

Rising jazz star Anat Cohen "is suddenly everywhere" said the Boston Phoenix in a recent feature advancing Cohen's performance at the Newport Jazz Festival this Saturday, August 11. The Israeli born saxophonist and clarinetist is taking the jazz world by storm garnering praise hailing her as "the most original young instrumentalists in jazz" (Washington Post) and an "improviser with gusto" (New York Times). She will make her debut at the legendary festival playing music from her critically acclaimed new album 'Poetica' (Anzic Records) with the Anat Cohen Quartet backed by Jason Lindner on Piano, Omer Avital on Bass and Daniel Freedman on Drums.

In July, Cohen made her debut at NYC's Village Vanguard, making her the first female horn player and first Israeli musician to headline the legendary club. Just days prior to that she was honored with two major awards by the Jazz Journalists Association: Clarinetist of the Year, and Up and Coming Musician of the year. And in the current issue of Downbeat, she is voted Rising Star Clarinetist of the year and given nods in five separate categories in the magazine's long-running annual critics poll.
