Trio da Paz Performs in Cooperstown

by Peg Odell

Trio da Paz will perform in Cooperstown, NY on August 20 as part of the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival. Cooperstown Festival Artistic Director Linda Chesis has wanted to bring Trio da Paz to Cooperstown for several years, and this year arranged for the jazz trio to come perform on their one-night off from a two-week engagement at Dizzy's Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Formed in 1990 by Romero Lubambo, Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca, the Trio redefines Brazilian Jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. All three are seasoned masters of both jazz and Brazilian music with impressive resumes.

In past years, the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival has featured Bill Charlap, Stefon Harris and Hank Jones. The Festival opened July 10 with Midori, and includes performances by soprano Amy Burton, pianist Simone Dinnerstein and Mark O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz. Trio da Paz will perform in the Louis C. Jones Center at The Farmers' Museum, Lake Road, Cooperstown.
