JD Walter & Jean-Michel Pilc at the Jazz Gallery

JD Walter & Jean-Michel Pilc Duo will play on Friday August 3rd at the Jazz Gallery, New York. JD Walter is one of the most compelling and original male jazz vocalists on the scene. Pianist Jean-Michel Pilc is “a physical and densely harmonic player, a splashy stunner who also has a Rubik's-cube mind for chord substitutions” (Ben Ratliff, NY Times). Walter and Pilc can be heard together, to dazzling effect, on JD's debut album of 2000, Sirens in the C-House.

JD has since collaborated with the likes of Dave Liebman, Orrin Evans and Sean Jones, touring the world and bringing his creativity to bear on a wide array of music. His latest CD, 2Bass A Face and a Little Skin, is an exploratory outing for voice, two basses and drums. Pilc, meanwhile, has built up an astounding discography on the Dreyfus label, displaying wit and technical mastery on standards and originals, in solo (Follow Me), trio (Live at Iridium) and expanded ensemble (Cardinal Points) formats.
