Awards For ECM

It is unique the same label has received 2007 annual distinctions both for jazz and classical repertoire. ECM garnered the Jazz Journalists Association "Record Label of the Year" Award and was voted "Label of the Year" at the MIDEM Classical Awards in Cannes. Recently-announced annual recording short-lists and artist polls from leading international jazz and classical magazines underline this dual artistic achievement.

A number of ECM artists feature in the top rankings of the Downbeat Annual Critics Poll published in the magazine's August issue. Among them, overwhelmingly at the top of the pack in the category acoustic piano stands Keith Jarrett. In the Rising Stars categories, two artists from different generations appear in first place: under trombone Gianluca Petrella, and under Miscellaneous Instrument the 73-year young Dino Saluzzi.

Two ECM recordings have been short-listed for the Gramophone Awards 2007:
in the category Baroque Instrumental, Bach Sonatas and Partitas as performed by John Holloway, ECM New Series 1909/10, and
in the category Chamber Music Bartok / Hindemith String Quartets as performed by the Zehetmair Quartett, ECM New Series 1874
The short-list comprises 45 recordings, the top 3 in each category. The full list will be published in the October issue of Gramophone.
