| Ike Turner Day Snubbed by St. Louis Mayor Mayor Francis Slay denied "Ike Turner Day" Sept. 2, the day the 75 year- old guitarist, singer is suppose to perform at the Big Muddy Blues Festival. Mayor Slay felt uncomfortable due to Turner's questionable past. In 1990 he was jailed for 17 month period for a drug conviction. Festival director Dawne Massey stated: "We were only looking to celebrate his contributions to the music industry". Turner is looked upon by some as helping to put St. Louis on the Rhythm and Blues map. Turner could be prophetic and look at one of the titles of his old songs with then wife Tina.
