| Michelle Walker at Smoke Jazz Vocalist, Michelle Walker, a recent transplant from Washington, DC to New York City, will perform in concert at Smoke this Sunday June 24, 2007. Over the last few years, Michelle has begun to amass an impressive musical resume of concert and festival performances, including The Lincoln Center-Women in Jazz Festival, The Silver Spring Jazz Festival, Goshen Jazz Festival and The Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. She has also opened in concert for legendary jazz vocalist Mark Murphy, Wynton Marsalis and Rene Marie. Often compared to Cassandra Wilson, Nina Simone and Betty Carter in style and tone, Michelle has been critically acclaimed for her rhythmic expressiveness and rich vocal quality. Her arrangements of straight-ahead standards and contemporary pop tunes blend genres effortlessly and with a level of originality that is solidifying her own distinctive sound. Dave Nathan at AllAboutJazz.com says, “Walker demonstrates an extraordinary degree of musicality.” The essence of Smoke is great live music in someone's living room. It's like a house party with the best jazz musicians alive today, hanging out and doing what they love, jamming. Early Sunday evenings are no different as they come alive with featured jazz vocalists. Joining Michelle will be Nikolaj Hess - Piano, Ron Affif - Guitar, Essiet Essiet - Bass, Jeremy Clemons - Drums. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
