| Jazz and Filipino Independence Day Charmaine Clamor, America's leading jazz vocalist of Filipino descent, celebrates Philippine Independence Day with a special downloadable single, “Ako Ay Pilipino.” Collaborating with Naxos recording artist Richard Ickard on guitar, Clamor lends her unmistakable voice to a beloved Filipino anthem. As an immigrant in the United States, Clamor reaffirms her native pride in her first tongue, Tagalog - “taas noo kahit kanino, ang Pilipino ay ako” -- and encourages her Filipino brethren to do the same. On June 12, “Ako ay Pilipino” was made available for listening exclusively at Clamor's fan site. In August, Charmaine's 2nd FreeHam Records album, “Flippin' Out,” will contain, for the first time in the history of U.S jazz & world music, Kundiman, the Philippines' most beloved love songs. “I was introduced to Kundimans by my mom, whom I used to accompany on the piano while she sang these beautiful ballads,” Clamor says. “It's been a lifelong dream to share our music with the world and to have the rest of the world sing our songs! I hope that 'Flippin' Out' is a start.” Charmaine gives new life to these Kundimans by arranging them in a jazzy, fresh vibe. Backed by the Grammy-nominated Tierney Sutton trio (Christian Jacob, Trey Henry, Ray Brinker), as well as all-star Filipino guests Abe Lagrimas, Jr. (ukulele), Julius Tolentino (alto sax), Richard Ickard (guitar), and the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble (kulintang), Clamor sings in English and Tagalog. The official CD release concert is September 1, at Hollywood's Catalina Bar & Grill Jazz Club.
