| Jacqui Dankworth follows in the footsteps of Michael Parkinson Top jazz singer Jacqui Dankworth is carving out a highly acclaimed second career as a radio broadcaster in the UK. Her new show on DAB Radio Station theJazz is pulling the audiences once solely associated with Michael Parkinson. The timing of her show is perfect for station "surfers"..following Parkinson's Sunday Supplement on BBC Radio 2 it's a simple turn of the dial over to theJazz for two more hours of jazz standards, classic tracks and new acts in the company of one of the British Jazz Royal Family. But, is she any good as a presenter? The answer is yes..in fact, she's a breath of fresh air in the rather conventional "celebrity presenter" world. Jacqui knows her stuff..she plays a great mix of music and obviously takes a lot of time putting her running order together. Naturally there is a nod here and a nod there to her family members..but heck, if she didn't you would wonder why..and, without doubt, evety track she has played deserved it's airtime, and for a vocalist, Jacqui's support of instrumental jazz is not lacking. Excellent choices from both sides of the Atlantic have peppered her shows over the last few weeks..along with some truly exquisite British jazz..some of which has not been heard on the airwaves for decades..if ever. Jacqui Dankworth's Sunday Show is on theJazz DAB Digital Radio, Sky, cable and online at www.thejazz.com and it's well worth tuning in to! write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
