Codarts Summer school 'Jazz Around The World' 2007

On Friday July 6, a week before the start of the North Sea Jazz festival, the Codarts Summer school 'Jazz Around The World' will start. During six days a group of 55 international students will work with nine international musicians/educators: Rick Margitza (U.S.A, sax), Philip Catherine (Belgium, guitar), Dena DeRose (U.S.A, vocals), Gerard Presencer (U.K., trumpet), Cyro Baptista (Brazil, percussion), Hein Van de Geyn (Holland, double bass), Carlos Werneck (Brazil, electric bass) en Billy Hart (U.S.A., drums).

This year the Codarts Summer school 'Jazz Around The World' 2007 is this year centred around the music of Brazil and is inviting students from all over the world to come and join. Being part of the Summer school means being active for nine days in the exciting town of Rotterdam, where education, playing in bands, local gigs and visiting Europe's largest jazz festival come together.

From July 7 through 15 some 55 students will work together with their teachers, play in town. There will be master classes as well by members of the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra of the prestigious Juilliard School in New York. Also there will be a master class by renowned French drummer Andr Ceccarelli.

All teaching takes place in the well equipped building of Codarts, the Rotterdam conservatoire. After several days of intense learning, students will go out into town to perform in several clubs in the city. The education part will be concluded on July 12 with a mini-festival on which all student groups will perform. After this students will visit the North Sea Jazz Festival, for which hey will receive a free 3-day pass. In the daytime master classes will take place.

The Codarts Summer school 'Jazz Around The World' 2007 is a collaboration between Codarts, the North Sea Jazz festival. For this edition the Summer school works together with the renowned Eastman School of Music.
