| Waverly Seven: ’Artificial Flowers’ For Bobby Darin's Birthday May 14th would have been Bobby Darin's 71st birthday and although he is no longer with us, the jazz septet Waverly Seven celebrate his swing with "Artificial Flowers" from their album 'Yo! Bobby' (out 6/26 on Anzic Records). On "Artificial Flowers" Daniel Freedman's romping drums kick off the story of "poor little Ann" followed by Anat Cohen, Joel Frahm and Avishai Cohen's harmonizing horns. Manuel Valera's twinkling piano and Barak Mori's steady bass provide the foundation for peppy and sleek solos. Towards the end of the tune Jason Lindner's Hammond B3 lets out some resonating soulful wails. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
