| The Jackson Brothers at the Flushing Town Hall The saxophonist Ed Jackson and his older brother, the bassist David Jackson, have built an impressive resume as bandleaders, as well as touring and recording with a variety of jazz luminaries. For select engagements, they perform as The Jackson Brothers. One such occasion is Friday, May 4, when they will come to Flushing Town Hall to perform in the singular environs of the historic building's art exhibition gallery. The Jackson Brothers will perform as a quartet including Greg Buford on drums and Akiko Tsurega on piano. The concert is part of Flushing Town Hall's Intimate Jazz Series. Ed Jackson is a highly accomplished saxophonist. His wide range of styles is evident in the musicians he has worked and recorded with: Roy Haynes, T.S. Monk, The Fatback Band, Bobby Watson, Illinois Jacquet, Weldon Irvine, The Count Basie Band, Donald Blackman, Denzil Miller, Bernard Wright, Jaki Byard, Ran Blake, Sam Rivers, and Tom Varner, among others. He is also the founder of the 29th Street Saxophone Quartet, an internationally acclaimed group with which he has toured extensively. Ed is a graduate of the New England Conservatory. Bassist David Jackson began his career working with such artists as Sonny Rollins, Cab Calloway, Ruth Brown, Dorothy Donegan, Eartha Kitt, Billy Eckstine, Lionel Hampton, Lou Donaldson, Randy Weston, Jaki Byard, Ahmad Jamal and Illinois Jacquet. He has also recorded with Kenny Burrell, Jimmy McGriff, Dakota Staton, Roy Haynes, Jimmy Witherspoon and T.S. Monk, in addition to leading his own bands. Together, The Jackson Brothers have a dynamic that encompasses both tradition and the future of jazz.
