| Marlon & Stephanie Jordan at Music Tent by Sylvain Music Notes Marlon & Stephanie Jordan performs during Cutting Edge's Music Tent Of Claiborne. The Music Tent is a temporary retail and performance venue that will be in operation May 2 – May 6, 2007. Merchandise, food and beverages will be sold and nighttime performances will be held. A festival tent will be erected at 1518 North Claiborne Avenue, between the Neighborhood Civic and Arts Center and Ernie K- Doe's Mother-in-Law Lounge. The goal is to establish a place where visitors, locals and students can enjoy the music and culture of New Orleans. There will be nighttime music performances by local artists many of whom are not performing at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. The Music Tent will pay tribute to New Orleans nightclubs which nurtured New Orleans music, in particular two of New Orleans now defunct but definitively legendary nightclubs: Dorothy's Medallion and Lu and Charlie's. At Dorothy's Medallion you could see great New Orleans Blues and Rhythm & Blues artists such as Earl King, Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Rocky Charles; Lu and Charlie's featured New Orleans Contemporary Jazz greats such as Ellis Marsalis, James Black, Julius Farmer, James Singleton, Johnny Vidacovich, "Kidd" Jordan, Earl and "Willie Tee" Turbinton. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
