John Fedchock Plays In Illinois

World-renowned trombonist, composer, arranger and big band leader John Fedchock, a veteran of the famed Woody Herman Orchestra, is scheduled to appear in a CD release celebration performance with The Rob Parton JazzTech Big Band on March 28 at the Metropolis Center in Arlington Heights, IL, and at the Green Mill in a co-led Quintet with fellow trombonist Paul McKee on Friday and Saturday, March 30 & 31.

The John Fedchock New York Big Band has become an institution that has been thriving for almost two decades and proudly features many of the same players that started with the band in 1989. Once talented unknowns in the jazz world, the players that comprise Fedchock's ensemble have all become top-rate, first-call players on the New York and international jazz scenes. The John Fedchock New York Big Band has toured and performed around the globe, including shows at the Jazz & Blues Festival in Stockholm, Sweden, the Imatra Jazz Festival in Imatra, Finland, and the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. Regarded as one of the most perceptive and versatile trombonists on the scene today, Fedchock's reputation as an accomplished and resourceful composer/arranger is also widely acknowledged. His dense voicings, thick ensemble writing and unique, swinging lines have become his characteristic trademarks. “I'm a player who also writes,” offers Fedchock modestly. But in truth, John Fedchock is a supremely gifted musician whose artistry will unquestionably have a hand in guiding and shaping the direction of big band music for the new millennium.

On March 20, 2007 Reservoir Music released Up & Running, the newest recording from the John Fedchock New York Big Band. Here Fedchock and his formidable ensemble once again fully embrace and honor the jazz tradition while striking out on adventurous musical sojourns fueled by Fedchock's impeccable, imaginative playing, writing, arranging and leadership.
