| Temple University Symphony Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall Frank Sinatra once sang the praises of the trombone's influence on his ability to "play my voice" like a solo instrument. Nitzan Haroz, Philadelphia Orchestra's principal trombonist and Temple's Boyer College of Music and Dance faculty member, will second that comparison when he performs the Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra by Launy Grondahl with the Temple University Symphony Orchestra on March 28, 2007 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The concert, which marks Boyer's Lincoln Center debut, is part of the Temple University Alumni Association's Temple on the Road series, which presents lectures and programs in cities across the country led by alumni, faculty and friends of the University. Composed in 1924 while studying in Italy, Grondahl's concerto is a standout in a somewhat limited repertoire for solo trombone and orchestra. "It is one of the most lyrical romantic concerti written for the instrument", remarks Mr. Haroz, who having studied at Julliard and served as assistant principal trombone with the New York Philharmonic, "is excited about performing with the Temple Orchestra and returning 'back home' to Alice Tully Hall." Under the baton of Maestro Luis Biava, the Temple Orchestra has been praised for its "brilliant string section, strong brass and spritely woodwinds." The program will also feature Berlioz' Overture to Benvenuto Cellini, Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune and Respighi's Pini di Roma. Under Maestro Biava's leadership, undergraduate and graduate students study with faculty who are also members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Boyer alumni are members of The Philadelphia, Cleveland and Minnesota Orchestras; the Chicago, Boston, Detroit and National Symphony Orchestras; and the Metropolitan, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Hungarian Symphonies.
