Francisco Pais' CD Debut Not Afraid Of Color

Fresh Sound New Talent is pleased to announce the release of guitarist Francisco Pais' stunning debut: Not Afraid of Color. Featuring Pais with his quintet of five years - Chris Cheek on tenor and soprano sax, Ferenc Nemeth on drums, Leo Genovese on piano and Fender Rhodes, and Massimo Biolcati on bass - Not Afraid of Color features Pais' original music blending elements of American jazz with European classical music and pop.As trombonist Hal Crook says: "This is strong, exotic and compelling music played by a great band. In Francisco you hear a thoughtful and focused improviser and composer. His music is a provocative blend of traditional and modern jazz, very easy to listen to yet not lacking in depth, excitement or imagination."

The original compositions on Not Afraid of Color range from somber even-eighths to hard swing to volcanic drum-n-bass and beyond. Pais has managed to create music that is truly his own. While his influences are clear, his music is not derivative or trite. It is fresh, interesting and sounds like Pais- not Rosenwinkel or Metheny.
