39th Annual Berklee High School Jazz Festival

Over 3, 000 young musicians and 221 bands will perform and compete for trophies, citation plaques, and tuition scholarships totaling $100, 000 at the Berklee College of Music 39th Annual High School Jazz Festival, Saturday, March 17, at the Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston Street. The festival is the oldest and largest of its kind in the U.S.

Awards will be presented in the 2, 700-seat Hynes Grand Ballroom. All events — including the high school band performances, as well as an all-day schedule of concerts and clinics by Berklee faculty and visiting artists — are free and open to the public.

The full schedule: Berklee City Music Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, room 100, 10:00 – 10:20 a.m.; Berklee City Music Vocal Ensemble, room 100, 10:20 – 10:40 a.m.; Mass All-Star Choir, auditorium, 11:30 – noon.; Berklee City Music Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, room 100, 10:40 – 11:00 a.m.;Berklee City Music Advanced Ensemble, room 100, 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.;Open jam session, room 100, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.; Terri Lyne Carrington drum clinic, room 100, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.; Phil Wilson and the Berklee Rainbow Band, auditorium, 2:15 – 3:15 p.m.; Delfeayo Marsalis improvisation clinic, room 100, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.; Greg Hopkins and the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra, auditorium, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.;
