| The First Montreal Guitar Show All true aficionados of acoustic, classical, archtop and manouche guitars will be treated to the ultimate temptation this summer with the 1st Montreal Guitar Show, an event devoted to instruments crafted by that exceptional breed of artisans known as luthiers. From July 6 to 8, as part of the Montreal Musician and Musical Instrument Show and the Festival International de Jazz de Montral, Montreal will host nothing less than the biggest guitar show in Canada. With its 70 exhibitors, the event, which is dedicated exclusively to handcrafted guitars, will showcase the masterpieces of several of the world's greatest luthiers at the Hyatt Regency Montreal. Given last year's success of the guitar luthier segment of the MMMIS, this year the MMMIS and the Festival decided to get involved in promoting these artists-artisans, who are true stars in the minds of guitarists everywhere. Guitarists will have a unique opportunity to see, touch, try out, and even purchase the instruments on show at this rare exhibit of buyable quality instruments all at one location. Guitarists will have a chance to meet luthiers from Quebec, the rest of Canada, the United States, South America and Europe, including the true crme de la crme and young, upcoming stars. Names such as Mario Beauregard, Bill Comins, Rick Davis, Sergei de Jonge, Charles Fox, Oskar Graf, Michael Greenfield, Peter Hopkins, Michael Lewis, John Monteleone, Tom Ribbecke, Jean Rompr, Ervin Somogyi and others come to mind. What more could you ask for? Organizers will be going all out to ensure a fantastic experience for guitar lovers. For example, the Montreal Guitar Show will be setting up private studios to provide optimal conditions for trying out instruments. The MGS will also be offering a series of meeting sessions and free workshops on the luthier's art and the art of guitar playing. In other words, guitars will be looking their best to win our hearts from July 6 to 8, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Salon Alfred Rouleau of the Hyatt Regency Montreal. Until then, visit the website at montrealguitarshow.com to find out the list of all the luthiers who will be participating in the event, and register for the newsletter to receive all the details on the MGS, MMMIS and Festival International de Jazz de Montral. The same website will give the public outside Montreal access to special packages at several hotels partnering with the MGS. The Montreal Guitar Show, presented as part of the Montreal Musician and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS), and the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, would like to officially acknowledge the support received from their partners: the Government of Canada, Gouvernement du Quebec and Tourisme Montreal. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Jazz News :: home page |
