2007 Telluride Jazz Celebration

The Telluride Society for Jazz today announced the line-up for the 2007 Telluride Jazz Celebration, the 31st edition of an event whose spectacular alpine location and all-star roster of artists have established it as one of the most memorable events on the global summer jazz festival circuit.

Guitarist John Scofield has been named 2007's guest of honor and will appear with Trio Beyond featuring drummer Jack DeJohnette & keyboardist Larry Goldings and with keyboardist John Medeski & drummer Adam Deitch. As a tribute, the TJC will rename its main stage “The John Scofield Stage” for the duration of the event scheduled to take place August 2-5, 2007.

Other artists scheduled to appear as headliners at the 2007 TJC include guitarist Bill Frisell; organist Dr. Lonnie Smith; trumpeters Roy Hargrove and Arturo Sandoval; trombonist Steve Turre; Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings; vocalists Giacomo Gates and Roberta Gambarini; and bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding; Exact dates and times for all performances will be announced at a later date.

Located in a box canyon at the foot of the majestic San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado, Telluride was founded in the late 19th century as a mining community and over the years it has evolved into a world-class resort. Since 1977, the TJC has annually presented an all-star line-up of world-renowned jazz artists in concert here and today enjoys a reputation among audiences and musicians alike as one of the world's leading jazz festivals. No Wasted Notes presents the TJC along with the Raynier Institute & Foundation, Mountain Village Owners Association and the US Bank of Telluride among other sponsors. The TJC combines daytime events on outdoor stages with theater and club shows at night. With its intimate concert format complemented by abundant opportunities to enjoy recreational activities in an idyllic alpine environment the TJC proudly represents the art form of jazz in Telluride's eclectic annual cultural calendar that also includes festivals devoted to Bluegrass, Mountain Film, Blues & Brews, Chamber Music, Wine and a world- renowned International Film Festival.

Guest of Honor - John Scofield, one of the most prolific, progressive and influential guitarists and composers of our time. In honor of his long-time friendship with the TJC, this year's main stage will be named “The John Scofield Stage”.

Trio Beyond - John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette & Larry Goldings - A powerhouse trio featuring Miles Davis alumnus DeJohnette, DownBeat Magazine Readers Poll 2006 “Drummer of the Year,” Scofield and the talented Goldings on keyboards - released sensational CD Saudades on ECM in 2006.

Scofield, Medeski & Deitch: Scofield teams up with organist John Medeski (the Indirecto CD Out Louder by Scofield and Medeski, Martin & Wood was a top jazz CD of 2006 & 2007) and drummer Adam Deitch.
