| Sydney bands - music and Australia Day celebrations. Australia Day is celebrated on the 26th January and has become the single biggest day of celebration in Australia. In NSW alone there are over 160 committees working to put on events and activities throughout the State. Throughout the suburbs of Sydney, cities and townships through Australia there are thousands of events put on by local communities, local Councils, major shopping centers, and local community minded business people. Australia Day is a community day with formal ceremonies around the country including: flag raising, citizenship ceremonies, presentations of community awards, combined with local events and fun activities. Celebrations actively encourage participation of all Australians regardless of age, ethnicity and culture. Increasing numbers of communities are also making efforts to recognize the meaning of the day for indigenous Australians with welcoming ceremonies for visitors and local alike Music plays a special part in the Australia day celebrations, bush bands are very popular, traditional jazz bands are also seen everywhere, performing a mix of Jazz plus a few Australian bush ballads thrown in. In keeping with the promotion of multicultural participation in the Australia Day celebrations. Warringah Council is showcasing one of their local bands, Viva the band. The band is popular in Sydney and regularly perform at International music events, they are well known for their performances for council's and community events with a history performances for Councils including: Sydney City, Canada bay, Canterbury, Mosman, Manly, Warringah, Gosford, The Entrance, Nelson bay and Penrith Viva the band will be providing a special repertoire of music including: French, Spanish, Russian, Hungarian, Gypsy jazz, jazz, swing and classic show tunes.
