| Live Music Network conference at MIDEM 2007 The live-music industry will take centre stage at MIDEM 2007. Some of the industry's key experts will speak in the third edition of the Live Music Network conference, over 40 concerts will offer an exceptional range of live performances and Montreux Jazz Festival founder and CEO, Claude Nobs, is the MIDEM 2007 Personality of the Year. On January 22, the Live Music Network will look at how this essential music industry sector is adapting to a rapidly changing environment. Several panels will explore the interaction between the live, recording and technology sectors and how growing links and partnerships are shaping a new live-music business. Keynoting this year will be Sean Moriarty, President and COO of Ticketmaster (USA), the world's largest concert and event ticket retailer, Claude Nobs, Founder and CEO of the emblematic Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland); funk Master Georges Clinton, Founder of Parliament and Funkadelic and owner of the new record label The C Kunspyruhzy Label (USA) will share his unique live experience. Sharing their views in a special Asian Session called Take the A(sian) Train, will be Nori Tsuzuki, Manager, International Division, Kyodo Tokyo (Japan); Jiang Ling, General Manager, Chia Tai Ice Production / China International Culture & Arts Company (China); Marcus J. Ough, CEO and Chief Producer, Poptune Productions CO (Korea). The conference will also feature a panel focussing on the role of brands in the live sector. Speakers will include: Nuala Donnelly, Head of Music Sponsorship, O2 (UK), Geoff Ellis, CEO, DF Concerts (UK), Peter Jenner, Chairman, International Music Managers' Forum IMMF (UK), Detlef Kornett, CEO, AEG Berlin (Germany), Mike Mathieson, CEO, Cake (UK), Chris Smith, Chris Smith Management/Manager of Nelly Furtado (Canada). The Live Music Network conference is sponsored by MPA Japan and organised in association with the International Music Managers' Forum IMMF; the information resource for the live entertainment industry, VIP Booking; the live music magazine Audience & the German music industry trade publication Der Musikmarkt. The Live and A&R Networking Lunch sponsored by Rehearsals.com will take place on January 23. In addition to the panels, MIDEM 2007 will feature no less than 44 concerts from all over the world. Over 100 artists, bands and orchestras, covering a spectrum of musical genres from classical, jazz, electro, pop, rock, world and urban, will perform over the five-day MIDEM event. Of special note are three world-music concerts: from the French-speaking world, "Francophonie" featuring Mali's Salif Keita; a Reggaeton/Urban Latin Night; an exceptional Afro-Flamenco showcase featuring the new jazz phenomenon, Buika; three home-grown groups from Taiwan and a concert featuring no less than ten Jamaican artists including reggae star Shaggy. New this year, the MIDEM Talent Stage unites all the new talent concerts: the third annual edition of the SonicBids-partnered Buzz Bands initiative which aims to give eight promising new artists a chance to be discovered; the ever-popular British at MIDEM night which includes exploding soul sensation Amy Winehouse and MOBO-winning rapper Akala and finally the talent contest hosted by French culture magazine, Les Inrockuptibles, CQFD (Ce Qu'il Faut Découvrir – What you need to discover), will feature the 2005 winner, Spleen and tongue-in-cheek rockers Fancy. MIDEM's Classique and Jazz concert line-up also brings together a fine selection of world renowned and up-and-coming talent including: Henri Dutilleux, Pekka Kuusisto, Valeriy Sokolov, Pavel Sporcl, Francesco Tristano Schlimé, Sumi Jo, Guillaume de Chassy, Daniel Yvinec, Térez Montcalm, The Neil Cowley Trio and Manu Katché "Neighbourhood" Group.
