Luciana Souza at The University of Richmond

Monday, February 5, 2007 the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond presents in the Camp Concert Hall three-time Grammy nominee Luciana Souza, joined by guitarist Romero Lubambo. It will be an evening of smooth Brazillian jazz-like melodies from their recent album Brazillian Duos.

Luciana Souza hails from São Paulo, Brazil, where she grew up in a family of musicians. She began her recording career at age three with a radio commercial, and recorded more than 200 jingles and soundtracks, becoming a first-call studio veteran by age 16. She has a highly competitive music background, being educated at the Berklee College of Music with a masters from the New England Conservatory.

In 2005, Souza was awarded Female Jazz Singer of the Year, by the Jazz Journalists Association. The Los Angeles Times hails her shows as surprising, saying, "The material will not be especially familiar to American audiences, but the intimacy of Souza's performances transcends familiarity and language." The New York Times deems her album Brazillian Duos, "a display of almost effortless authority"
