John Fedchock New York Big Band at the Jazz Standard

The John Fedchock New York Big Band appears for a one-night-only, CD release celebration and performance at The Jazz Standard, one of NYC's premier jazz venues. Fedchock's all-star group will be performing music from their upcoming Reservoir CD release, "Up & Running, " showcasing fresh new Fedchock compositions along with arrangements of jazz classics and American standards.

Over the course of the past twenty years, virtuoso trombonist/arranger/ composer, John Fedchock has risen through the musical ranks to emerge as leader of one of the freshest, most exciting big bands in jazz. His 16-piece New York Big Band is comprised of alumni from major big bands, along with several of New York's finest players in the "modernist tradition". The group delights in performing many of Fedchock's own dynamic compositions and arrangements as well as more well-known standards, creating a sound that not only honors, but expands the tradition of the American big band. Their debut recording, "New York Big Band" (Reservoir), along with follow-up CD, "On The Edge" (also Reservoir), received high praise from critics, including 4 1/2 star reviews in DOWNBEAT magazine and the appearance of both recordings in DOWNBEAT's list of "Best CDs Of The 90's". The band's heralded third release "No Nonsense" (Reservoir), added to their critically acclaimed body of work, and earned Fedchock a 2003 Grammy Award nomination for "Best Instrumental Arrangement" for his exciting chart on "Caribbean Fire Dance."
