| Jane Ira Bloom at Tonic Jane Ira Bloom will perform at Tonic, NYC, Saturday, January 6 with Matt Wilson - drums, Mark Helias - bass and Dawn Clement - piano & keyboards with Beyond the Brain. Beyond the Brain was created with support from Chamber Music America's New Works: Creation & Presentation Program, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Soprano saxophonist and composer Jane Ira Bloom was recently awarded the 2007 Mary Lou Williams Jazz Award for lifetime service to jazz. Winner of the 2006 Jazz Journalists award for soprano saxophone, the IWJ Jazz Masters Award, and the IAJE Charlie Parker Fellowship for jazz innovation, Bloom, a former NASA artist was also honored by having an asteroid named in her honor (asteroid:6083janeirabloom) by the International Astronomical Union. Recent performances with her quartet include the Virginia Arts Festival, The Lensic Theatre (NM), the first International Society of Improvisers Conference (MI), and Sweet Rhythm (NYC). She has composed for the American Composers Orchestra, the St Luke's Chamber Ensemble and the Pilobolus, Paradigm, and Philadanco dance companies and looks forward to scoring a new work for legendary dancer/choreographer Carmen DeLavallade in 2007.
