| Big Machine Records - Top Ten R&R 'Label of the Year' Distinction Big Machine Records has been named the Number Nine Country Label of 2006 by music-industry trade publication Radio and Records. Although Big Machine President & CEO Scott Borchetta has led numerous promotion teams that have won the coveted Top 10 label award in past years, this accolade is particularly meaningful to the industry veteran. Big Machine Records launched just over a year ago with a dream, and a team of passionate industry professionals headed by Borchetta. The label has already posted a number of successes which would be considered impressive for a company two or three times its size and age. Jack Ingram&No 8217;s first Number One hit, 'Wherever You Are, ' was also Big Machine's first. The label has also landed three singles in the Top 10 and five in the Top 25 on the ultra-competitive country radio charts. In addition to Jack Ingram's success with his first chart-topper, and the Top Ten follow-up single, 'Love You, ' his third single 'Lips of an Angel' appears destined for the top of the charts. After making its chart debut weeks ahead of the scheduled radio add date, 'Lips' tied superstar Keith Urban's latest for the biggest chart jump last week. The high-octane performer has toured with superstars Sheryl Crow and Brooks & Dunn, and Gary Allan this year. Two thousand seven looks to be another banner year for the Texas native as he was just named to perform on country radio's New Faces concert when the group convenes for its annual convention in Nashville in February. Jack's second Big Machine Records album, This Is It, is due out March 27. Songwriter and vocal powerhouse Danielle Peck is the most-played debut female artist of 2006 according to Mediabase. She's also joined an elite group of new female artists in country music by scoring a Top 15 single with 'Findin' a Good Man.' Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Miranda Lambert and labelmate Taylor Swift are the only other new females to achieve that goal in the last three years. Danielle's self-penned debut single, 'I Don't, ' was also a hit at country radio, and her self-titled first album debuted at No 3 on the Billboard Top New Artist Album chart. Danielle's autobiographical new single 'Isn't That Everything' is climbing the country radio airplay charts, while her uplifting music video is making waves on CMT and GAC. Sixteen-year-old songwriter/singer/guitarist Taylor Swift has also added to the list of Big Machine accomplishments. Her self-titled debut album, for which she wrote or co-wrote all 11 songs, debuted at No 3 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. The Top 10, and climbing, first single, 'Tim McGraw, ' has sold over 215, 000 downloads and she's recently been chosen for Rhapsody's 'Ones to Watch.' Taylor will tour with new Country Music Hall of Fame inductee George Strait in the New Year and wrapped up 2006 opening for country supergroup Rascal Flatts. Like Jack Ingram, Taylor has also been selected for the 2007 CRS New Faces show. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
