Nathan Hanson and Federico Ughi at Zeitgeist

Friday, 10 November 2006 Fantastic Merlins - Nathan Hanson and Federico Ughi will perform at Zeitgeist, Cambridge, Mass with Circadian Rhythm Kings as an opening band.

Nathan Hanson and Federico Ughi have been playing as a duo since a few days after Ughi's arrival in NYC from London in 2000. Their deep musical affinity has enthralled audiences in the US and Europe, and has provided accompaniment to dance and visual art installations/ performances. Their partnership extends beyond the duo setting to The Fantastic Merlins, a quartet which includes cello and double bass; and Options, a quintet led by Ughi which includes another saxophone as well as electric guitar and bass. Hanson and Ughi will release their debut duo recording in early 2007 on 577 Records.

Nathan Hanson is a tenor saxophonist and composer, based in NYC until recently, now based in St. Paul, Minnesota, who specializes in improvised music. He has performed with Cecil Taylor, Douglas Ewart, Dizzy Gillespie, Mark Dresser, Carei Thomas, Liberty Ellman, Elliot Humberto Kavee, Trevor Dunn, Tony Malaby, Daniel Carter, Sabir Mateen, Matt Glassmeyer, Sean Moran, Dan Fabricatore, Bruce Eisenbeil, Kevin Schmidt, Jay Rosen, Francis Wong among others.

Federico Ughi is an artist based in New York with a particular interest in improvisation. He has performed or recorded as a composer, drummer, and electronic musician with such artists as: Daniel Carter, William Parker, Steve Swell, Steve Dalachinsky, Andrea Parkins, Steve Gauci, Tom Abbs, Matt Lavelle, Jaime Fennelly, Nathan Hanson, Matt Glassmeyer, Sean Moran, Dan Fabricatore, Reuben Radding, Sayuri Goto, Marco Cappelli, Michael Evans in New York and Geoff Simkins, Steve Buckley, Rhodri Davies, Phil Durrant, Cinematic Orchestra (Ninja Tune), Roberto Bellatalla, Carl Orr and Bloody Riot in London, UK and Italy.
