'Voices' By Michael White

On November 14, 2006, Izniz Recordings will release 'Voices' from Jazz icon Michael White. This session was put together to celebrate the 30th anniversary of White's legendary Impulse Jazz release 'he Land of Spirit and Light', considered by numerous experts to be a classic and essential jazz album.

In White's first recording in over 10 years, Voices reunites violinist White with original 'Spirit and Light' session musicians Cecil McBee (double bass) and Kenneth Nash (percussion), and features Leisei Chen (vocals) and Timothy Young (guitar, Wayne Horvitz, Zony Mash). The album includes recordings which range from original compositions, classic jazz, bossa nova, latin, and improvisational sounds inspired by the diversity of world culture. According to White, 'My musical vision for the recording was based on Love, Healing, Inspiration and Hope. The magical organic environment brought forth the best musical creativity of everyone with effortless ease.'

Michael White is a truly original and groundbreaking violinist in the realm of jazz. In the 1960s, he introduced the violin into free jazz scenes in Bay Area and New York, playing with luminaries such as Sun Ra, John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders. In the early 1970s, he was a founding member of the first fusion group, the "Fourth Way". He released 5 albums with the 'Michael White Quartet' on Impulse records, and toured throughout the United States and Europe. He has performed in Lagos, Nigeria with Stevie Wonder and Sun Ra.

Michael White has always been a visionary musical artist; this album shows that his music is more profound and important than ever.
