| Issue 8 of Point of Departure Launches November 1st Since launching September 2005, Point of Departure: an online music journal, has been acclaimed by media outlets in the US and Europe for its strong content and informed opinions about jazz and other forms of uncompromising music, and garnered a 2006 Jazz Journalist Association Jazz Award Nominee for Best Website Concentrating on Jazz. Issue 8 of Point of Departure launches November 1st. Issue 8 features a comprehensive look at the music of Finnish pianist-composer Iro Haarla. Northbound … features a review of Haarla's "ECM Quintet" at the UMO Festival in Helsinki, an interview with Haarla, and an extensive survey of Haarla's recordings with Edward Vesala, Sound & Fury, Rolling Thunder, and her projects as leader and co-leader.
