| Zola CD Release Show at Scullers Jazz Club Zola, South African-born vocalist and Billboard Award-winning songwriter, will release her latest jazz/pop critically acclaimed CD Here With You at Boston's Scullers Jazz Club, on Wednesday, November 29. On this latest CD, Zola stretches her vocal talent and compositional palette like never before. In these original songs of love, the subtle variations in theme run from the sultry ("Long Long Time, " "Worth Your While") to the sweetly romantic ("You, " "But to Love You"), to the joyous celebration of friendship ("A Million Years, " "I Do Enjoy You So"), while managing to slip in a few uptempo dance tunes along the way. Nor does Zola shy away from setting her evocative voice to confronting the pain of unrequited love ("This Is How It Is") or the wistful sadness of separation and goodbye ("Blue Rain"). Her stunning performances are accompanied by fine musicians, including Doug Hammer, whose tasteful accompaniment ranges from the sparse piano backing of "Ever" to the lush jazz-blues arrangement of the breezy "Pinstripe Blues." Before bidding us an all-too-speedy goodbye, the artist ties up loose ends with the haunting "My Prayer, " her intimate, poignant plea, filled with kindness and wishes of genuine love and happiness for anyone out there fortunate enough to be listening. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
