| Duduka Da Fonseca At Sweet Rhythm Duduka Da Fonseca Quintet (Anat Cohen - saxes, cl; Helio Alves - p; Vic Juris - g; Leonardo Cioglia - b; Duduka Da Fonseca - dr;) will play Samba Jazz and the music of Jobim at Sweet Rhythm, NYC November 17, 18. Grammy nominee and award-winning drummer and percussionist Duduka Da Fonseca began playing the drums at the age of thirteen. By age fifteen, he was appearing on television and also performing and recording with top Brazilian musicians. In 1975, Duduka moved to New York, where he formed numerous Brazilian jazz groups. One of these groups, Brazilian Express, appeared on a National PBS television special. The New York Samba Band performed at The Blue Note, Fat Tuesday's and The Village Gate, among other clubs in the U.S. The Brazilian Jazz All Stars featured artists Bob Mintzer, Eliane Elias and Randy Brecker. Duduka is the co-leader of Trio da Paz, nominated as the best new Latin Jazz Group of 1993, and winner of the Jazz Journalist Association Awards, for the best Brazilian jazz album of 2002 (Partido Out, Malandro Records) Duduka has recorded and performed with artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud Gilberto, Herbie Mann, Claudio Roditi, Joanne Brackeen, Eddie Gomez, John Scoffield, Joe Henderson, Gerry Mulligan, Jorge Dalto, Dom Salvador, Mario Adnet, Paulo Jobim, Jacques Morelembaum, Lee Konitz, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Phil Woods, Emily Remler, Nan Vasconcelos, Nancy Wilson, Slide Hampton, Kenny Barron, Tom Harrell and many others. From 1984 to 1999 Duduka was a member of the faculty at the Drummer's Collective in NYC, conducting workshops and private lessons. He has also conducted workshops in Europe, Asia and Brazil. In 2002 Duduka's first solo album Samba Jazz Fantasia was nominated for the Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album.
