| Chico Hamilton Remix 'By Invitation Only' "Chico" Hamilton and label Joyous Shout released an exclusive remix by Baltimore's Fertile Ground, available only on Chico's MySpace page. Penned by Fertile Ground founder, James Collins, "Simple Timeless" is the first in a series of "By Invitation Only" celebrity Chico Hamilton remixes made available exclusively on the wildly popular social networking site. The tune drops hot on the heels of a smashing performance at Joe's Pub in New York City on Chico's 85th birthday in late September, where Joe Claussell introduced the track to a packed house of Chico fans. Fertile Ground has created a unique piece of music the takes samples from Chico's original track "Alive" (which features Chico's popular Charleston beat) from the Believe album released in July, 2006. It includes FG members Navasha Daya on vocals and Craig Alston on tenor sax. "Simple Timeless" is Fertile Ground's unabashed celebration of Chico -- the man and his music. "I first got hip to Chico on an album called With Strings Attached, which is Chico's quintet with Eric Dolphy, " explains Collins. "Once I knew the name, I kept seeing Mr. Hamilton's countless recordings everywhere. What an inspiration! I have a lot of respect for Chico as a drummer, artist and innovator. His music has been a simple, timeless symphony of life, and that's the energy I wrote and recorded this song with." Chico loves the tune as well, so much so that he asked Collins for a chart of the tune so Chico could play with his group, Euphoria. So keep your ears peeled during future performances (dates included below.) "Simple Timeless" introduces the first in a series of "By Invitation Only" remixes available only through Chico's MySpace page and caps off a year which saw four critically acclaimed new releases including Juniflip, Believe, 6th Ave. Romp, and Heritage. "Simple Timeless" will be available on the page for only two weeks. After that, a new track will be announced, posted and made available for one week only. Upcoming featured remix artists will include Emeson, Marlon Jordan, Paul Murphy, Ovasoul 7, and the Nick Rossi Set. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
