| AfroMantra at the Town Hall Theater in New York City After a successful tour to Spain, the groundbreaking NYC-based group AfroMantra, led by Chilean-Cuban drummer and composer Alex Garcia, will be featured at the Chivas Regal, Latin Jazz USA Concert at the prestigious Town Hall Theater in New York City, on Thursday, October 19, 2006. AfroMantra incorporates a wide variety of jazz elements into the work, creating a palate that highlights the group's stirring inspirations and spiritual creativity; skillfully balancing original compositions, drawing from the Cuban, American and South American traditions and influences. AfroMantra will be sharing the stage with the likes of legendary Afro-Cuban percussionist Candido Camero, master flautist Dave Valentin, Brazilian composer and arranger Oscar Castro-Neves and the Latin Jazz Orchestra under the direction of maestro Eddy Martinez. During this year Latin Jazz USA will be presenting the Chico O'Farrill Lifetime Achievement Awards to selected Latin Jazz musicians and personalities for their excellent work and contribution to preserve and expose the musical and cultural values of the Latin Jazz musical genre in the United States and the world. AfroMantra will be performing new material from its upcoming CD, "Uplifting Spirit".
