Dr. Michael Hittman's ’In The Pocket’ Back On The Air

Dr. Michael Hittman's Jazz interview series is back on air. Starting on October 2nd 2006, "In The Pocket" (formerly "Sounds") can now be heard every Monday evening on WLIU-FM 88.3, Southampton, a National Public Radio Station.

Subtitled "The Smart Jazz Talk Show, " Dr. Hittman, an internationally-known professional anthropologist whose expertise and publications center on Native Americans, once again will bring jazz artists and their supporting cast (writers, photographers, film makers, and club-owners) into the "Studio Paramount, " our brand new radio facility in the basement of Long Island University's Brooklyn Paramount, for lively, thematic (if not academic) discourse about America's greatest art form.

As in the past, when interviews included such distinguished players as D. D. Jackson, Vincent Herring, Eric Wyatt, Virginia Mayhew, Mat Maneri and Jack Wilkins, along with Phil Schaap, Ira Gitler, Jean Bach, Bob Myers and Dale Fitzgerald, the first thirteen of these interviews in the new series feature Bill Saxton, Bob Cunningham, John McNeil, Ahmed Abdullah, as well as interviews with non- musicians, such as the jazz writer David Kastin (discussing the life of "The Baroness"); Professor Joe Dorinson (on "Lenny Bruce & Jazz") and others.
