| Ontario Council Of Folk Festivals Conference The Ontario Council of Folk Festivals will showcase outstanding and innovative musical talent at its 20th anniversary conference (Thursday to Sunday, October 12-15). OCFF Conference showcases are where music fans and conference delegates gather for a drink, to hear some inspiring, innovative, touching and downright fun music, to discover new artists, and to build both friendships and beneficial business relationships. This year, the OCFF is presenting 26 artists and bands that range in style from alt country to hip hop, at the Official OCFF Showcases. There are 24 official showcase performances on Friday and Saturday, and 2 Family Showcases taking place on Friday afternoon. In addition to the official OCFF showcases, numerous late-night showcase parties are hosted by independent record labels and artist representatives. Ontario Council of Folk Festivals and the Six String Nation kick off the OCFF's 20th anniversary with an all-star concert featuring OCFF Estelle Klein Award Winners Jackie Washington, Ken Whiteley, Ian Tamblyn, as well as Paul Klein performing on the one-of-a-kind Six String Nation Guitar. OCFF Estelle Klein Award Winners Sylvia Tyson and Friends of Fiddlers Green will also be highlight performers. Richard Flohil, 2006 Estelle Klein Award Winner, will host the event. Canada's ukulele virtuoso James Hill and others will open the show. The Six String Nation is a movement built around a one-of-a-kind guitar made from 64 different pieces of Canadian history, culture and community from every province and territory of Canada – including Pierre Trudeau's canoe paddle, Paul Henderson's 1972 'Summit Series' hockey stick, Maurice 'Rocket' Richard's 1955-56 Stanley Cup ring, Lucy Maud Montgomery's house, the Bluenose II, Louis Riel's schoolhouse, copper from the roof of the Library of Parliament, a seat from Massey Hall, part of the legendary Golden Spruce of Haida-Gwaii and many others. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
