| Michele and the Midnight Blues Release Their Live CD Michele and the Midnight Blues "A Night of Storytelling" CD is a live recording. This musical offering was meant to entertain the crowd with the stories behind the bands original songs and the songs themselves. The fans said they wanted the recording and that is exactly why Michele and the Midnight Blues have finally released their live "A Night of Storytelling" CD. Live on two tracks this musical offering was meant to entertain the crowd with the stories behind the band's original songs and the songs themselves. Recorded at their very first storytelling show at the Soap Box Lounge in Wilmington, North Carolina, you can hear the audience laughter peppered throughout, even though there were no microphones near them. It is an honest look behind the scene of why artists write the words they do. What inspired Michele and her band, and what notes she gave the musicians before they did the final touches on each tune performed that night. Even the sad stories somehow bring laughter, giving credence to the bands motto, that 'Blues is more than cry in your beer music.' It becomes obvious that bandleader Michele Seidman has a background in acting, because she weaves the stories and animates each tale with relish. Michele found the blues later in life, but started as camera actress on the TV soap opera "Another Life, " later doing small roles in "Empire Records, " "Dawson's Creek" and "Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys." She still does some acting, mostly indie films. She recently shot the part of Beverly in the hit "VOD Cast Port City PD" episode 4 and is shooting a small part in the feature film "Patriotville, " currently filming in South Carolina. Music is her main focus these days. Madison Bunting, guitar player and one of her co-authors ("Better Than I, " from the "Eyes set to Midnight" CD) is one of three guitarists playing on stage that night, all woven carefully with the bass and drums. There are two minor 'pop' sounds that could not be gotten rid of, but that just shows you are getting the true live sound and not some studio altered rendition that no band can duplicate live. This was meant to be simple and about the songs and inspiration. Advance copies went out to radio DJs have already started to air "A Night of Storytelling." The track "White Women get the Blues" is an ode to Shirley King, daughter of BB King, because she told Michele to keep singing, "even white women get the blues." The infamous tunes "Ain't Got Paid" and "Two Fisted Drinker" from Kalamazoo are intact with their stories. One DJ emails back she listens to this CD on her way to work each morning, and another listens at bed time each night. There is something to this honest storytelling show that stays in your mind long after the fade out. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
