| San Jose Youth Jazz Orchestra Auditions The San Jose Youth Jazz Orchestra is looking for the Bay Area's brightest young jazz musicians in the 9th through 12th grades. The SJYJO is an exciting learning opportunity for high school students interested in developing their skills. Members of the SJYJO will work with musicians from other schools and top local professionals to develop their sight reading, improvisation, and knowledge of the jazz repertoire. The SJYJO will have performances at the Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival and the San Jose Jazz Society Sunday Concert series and will host the Smith Dobson Youth Jazz Festival. We at San Jose Jazz are pleased to announce auditions for 2006-2007 Youth Orchestra: Date: Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3, 2006; Place: Valley Christian High School. Audition slots can be scheduled via email through the Orchestra Director, Dave Gregoric. Cut off for advanced audition slots will be September 30th. Please do not contact the San Jose Jazz Society office to schedule auditions. Preparation: 1. Musicians should have command of Major/minor scales in all keys. 2. Musicians should prepare Charlie Parker's "Yardbird suite" in C concert. 3. All students will be asked to play a 12 bar blues. 4. There will be sight reading at the audition. Requirements: Age: Students must be enrolled in High School at the time of the audition. Instrumentation: Trumpet, trombone, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Drum set, Percussion (hand drums), Vibes, Guitar, Bass, Piano.
