Orquesta d'Soul to Greet Fans

Orquesta d'Soul will welcome Raiders Fans as they arrive to the 2006 Raiders Hispanic Heritage Game on October 1st when the Raiders take on the Cleveland Browns at McAfee Coliseum. Orquesta d'Soul are newcomers to the festivities and will be greeting the Raider Nation with salsa-soul beats outside of the Bart entrance of the Coliseum.

The band was founded by trumpet player and group leader Marina Garza. Orquesta d'Soul consists of seven musicians: vocalists, Liza Jimenez and Nikki O'Shaughnessy, bassist Mike Lazarus, drummers Jason Gianni and Brian Andres and conga player Patricio Angulo. Orquesta d'Soul has released two albums, most recently the praised "Money Money."

Garza was born into a Mexican-American family and was raised in San Antonio, Texas. She studied classical and jazz music in college. Garza has developed a repertoire of original songs in both English and Spanish for Orquesta D'Soul. They use traditional Latin styles of music, salsa, rumba, mambo, ranchera and merengue as inspiration and framework but also using rock influences, hip hop and R&B. These musical combinations produce lively music that demands dancing.

Orquesta d'Soul has a lot of experience performing to large crowds. They have played many festivals, concerts and clubs. Together they have many years of knowledge when it comes to music which is shown through their performances.

With Garza's blazing trumpet in the background, Orquesta d'Soul delivers a satisfying dose of Latin rhythms, with a little new and old school R&B. Be on the lookout for them at the BART entrance of the Coliseum. The Oakland Raiders are honoring Hispanic Heritage with top performers of traditional Latino music. Having such an entertaining salsa-soul band as Orquesta d'Soul is proof of the Raiders commitment to diversity.
