| Calgary Blues Musicians to Perform for Kids by Cindy McLeod On Friday, September 15th, Calgary blues musicians will bring their talents to the stage in support of a new charity Burn Care For Kids Blues Benefit 2006. The benefit is being held to help raise help to raise funds for the Alberta Children's Hospital Burn Fund, with the intent of helping juvenile burn patients and their families have the most comfortable hospital stay possible. The charity was launched this summer by Renee Price of Calgary. Ms. Price and her husband are the parents of an 8 year old boy who was severely burned in a fire earlier this year. Their son continues treatment on a regular basis, but is now home with his parents, a happy ending to what could have been a tragic story. Ms. Price was motivated to start the benefit after witnessing first-hand the recovery process burn patients endure, and the medical heroes who help them return to their normal daily lives. The Burn Care For Kids Blues Benefit 2006 is the first annual event, and will feature live performances by leading members of Calgary's blues music community. The musicians are donating their performances and copies of their CD's in support of the fundraiser, while the Calgary business community has donated silent auction items and door prizes. Musician's slated to appear include Firm Handshake, Bill Dowey & the Blues Devils, Poppa Dawg & Dogskin Suit, the Jazzmatiks featuring Mike Gothreau with special guest vocalist CiCi, Tim Erickson, Ron Casat, SandyBone & the Breakdown, Blue Rhino, and the Lou Rye All-Star Band. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
