Adam Chamber Music Festival in New Zealand

Chamber music lovers are in for a sneak preview of this summer's Adam Chamber Music Festival with the launch of the programme at a concert by the New Zealand String Quartet at the Nelson School of Music next Thursday (14th September). Festival manager Ro Cambridge says the festival is now in its ninth season and again offers a cast of international talent:

"We are bringing back the wonderful viola player Nobuko Imai who was here last year and another guest is clarinet player James Campbell - a classical musician who's also a jazz player, " she said. "However we have some other treats that are not strictly 'chamber' music such as Deborah Wai Kapohe singing her own compositions for voice and guitar, and a bit of fun with the Musical Island Boys - the Wellington group that won the collegiate section of the International Barbershop Convention this year in the US."

Ms Cambridge said the Adam Chamber Music Festival drew over half of its concert goers from out of town and helped to put Nelson on the map as a cultural centre.

"The festival has an accessible style that makes it a great way to discover both the classic and the contemporary on the chamber music spectrum, " she said. "The programme that will be launched at this Saturday's concert has details of the 19 concerts and 4 master classes, mainly at the Nelson School of Music and the Cathedral, but also in other venues around the Nelson- Marlborough region."

Artistic Directors, Gillian Ansell and Helene Pohl, of the New Zealand String Quartet, will 'unveil' the programme at the Thursday night concert. There is a second concert on Friday - the first two shows of a series called Magical Mozart that the New Zealand String Quartet is touring around New Zealand. The concerts also feature guest pianist Peter Nagy. The programme for each concert features four works by Mozart, such as the Piano Quartet in G minor and the Quartet in B-flat known as 'The Hunt'.
