Swing Dance USA 2006

October 6, 7 and 8, Swing Dance USA is holding a 3 day spectacular Swing Era Convention and Competition at the historic St. Petersburg Coliseum. Attending will be international stars of stage, world champion instructors, living legends of swing, social dancers of all levels, swing dance and swing music enthusiasts and swing dance competitors of all ages and talents.

Saturday and Sunday daytime activities are packed with Swing Dance Workshops -- featuring International Swing Dance Champions Steve Garrett and Heidi Salerno. Steve and Heidi are considered one of the best dance couples in the World.

In addition, a list of amazingly talented instructors from across the Southeastern United States will teach workshops in Lindy Hop, Balboa, Bal-Swing, Jitterbug and variations of each. These instructors include Marcie McCabe, Don Kruse, Tim Adams, Lee Davidson, Rebecca Strickland, Seth Dietzel and more.

Workshops will be marked as intermediate (medium), or intense (fast) so attendees can choose their pace of learning.

Friday Night is the Opening Premiere of the Swing Dance USA three day event at the St. Petersburg Coliseum. There will be a free-to-the-public Meet and Greet Reception held in the balcony of the Coliseum. Ticket holders will experience New York City's finest Big Band since 1980, the world famous George Gee Orchestra. When George Gee's Band plays, in an instant, the swing era returns. Comprised of younger and older veterans of the world's most legendary big bands, George Gee's Orchestra appears across the world at top concert halls, and headlining the top Swing and Lindy Hop events.

Friday night there will be dancers from all over the world, and during the night there will be a Junior and Senior Strictly Swing Dance competition. Dance Legend Norma Miller will be at the dance with an entourage of friends and celebrities associated with her new film, Queen of Swing.

Saturday's show and dance features the dazzling Barbara Morrison from Los Angeles, California backed by the powerful George Gee Orchestra. The internationally famous Barbara Morrison has been featured on over 20 recordings. Celebrating nearly 30 years in the music industry, Barbara Morrison has performed with a virtual "who's who" of the Jazz and the Blues worlds including legends, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, James Moody, Ron Carter, Etta James, Esther Phillips, David T. Walker, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Otis, Dr. John, Kenny Burrell, Terence Blanchard, Joe Sample, Cedar Walton, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, and Keb' Mo. Additionally, Ms. Morrison guest starred with the Count Basie Orchestra, the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra and Doc Severinsen's Big Band.
