| Labour Day Concert in Ottawa Monday, September 4, 2006 Ottawa Folk Festival and Canadian Union of Public Employees present Scarlett, Washington & Whiteley with special guests Chris Whiteley & Diana Braithwaite in a Labour Day concert at the Library & Archives Canada Auditorium. Mose Scarlett, Jackie Washington and Ken Whiteley are three legends of the Canadian roots music scene. They share a love for old songs, humour and beautiful melodies. Since 1991 when their Juno-nominated disc Where Old Friends Meet was released, they have delighted audiences with blues, jazz, folk, swing, gospel and ragtime music. Mose is a great fingerpicking guitarist with a gorgeous, unmistakable deep baritone voice. Jackie brings his enormous repertoire, his rich experience going back to the twenties and his incredible zest for life. Ken is known as a "playing encyclopedia" because of his vast repertoire, his command of a wide variety of styles, and his prodigious ability on over a dozen instruments. Special guests Chris Whiteley & Diana Braithwaite are celebrating a new CD, Morning Sun, to be released on the Electro-Fi label on September 15. Chris is an award-winning performer and songwriter who has been performing, writing and recording music for over 30 years. Diana has been called a national treasure and one of the most authentic blues singers of today. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
