| The Steve Wiest Big Band: Excalibur Arabesque Jazz announces the release of Excalibur, the debut album of trombonist Steve Wiest and The Steve Wiest Big Band. Excalibur is a unique approach to the big band format. Steve Wiest has managed to walk a fine line with this album, tackling the big band format from a variety of angles. While approaching this project as a study of composition and arranging, he has at the same time managed to provide listeners with exciting, swinging music. Along with his energetic arrangements and compositions, Wiest has provided ample room for himself and the other soloists to stretch out, allowing each musician to place their personal stamp on the music. Steve Wiest is currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Trombone at The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He is an alumnus of the Maynard Ferguson Band, and has also performed and recorded with the University of North Texas 1:00 Lab Band and the Doc Severinsen Big Band. Arabesque Jazz is an imprint of Arabesque Recordings, an independent record label located in New York City that specializes in jazz and classical music. Arabesque has lined up a number of releases to follow Excalibur, including Out of Many Comes the One from saxophonist Chico Freeman, a tribute to classical vocalist Lotte Lehmann, and an album by the American String Quartet featuring the works of Richard Danielpour. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
