Google Video Premieres Rare Bob Dylan Videos

In anticipation of the release of Bob Dylan's new album, Modern Times, on August 29, Google Video has launched the worldwide online premiere of many rare and never-before-seen Bob Dylan videos. Included are outtakes from the famed 1967 documentary, Don't Look Back, a 1969 duet performance with Johnny Cash of "Girl from the North Country" from Cash's television show, music videos from the 1980s and '90s, and much more.

Google Video is a comprehensive index of free and paid, user-generated and professional video content. Google Video makes it easy for users to discover, watch and share videos and premium video producers to monetize and distribute their content.

The videos are being made available from the vaults of Columbia Records, and D.A. Pennebaker, many for the first time since their original release and all making their official online debuts.

"The demand for Bob Dylan content on the web is overwhelming, " said Samantha Saturn, Vice President, Digital Marketing, Columbia Records. "We couldn't be more thrilled to be working with Google Video as we take this major step in making these great Bob Dylan performances and other visuals available for the first time."

Bob Dylan is one of the world's most popular and acclaimed songwriters, musicians and performers, having sold nearly 100 million albums and performed literally thousands of shows around the world in a career spanning five decades.

Modern Times has already been hailed by critics, with Rolling Stone awarding the album 5 stars (out of 5) and proclaiming it, "His third straight masterwork." Robert Christgau in Blender magazine wrote that Modern Times is "Startling. Radiates the observant calm of old masters who have seen enough life to be ready for anything -- Yeats, Matisse, Sonny Rollins."

Bob Dylan's most recent studio albums, Time Out Of Mind and "Love And Theft" have been among his most commercially successful and critically lauded, each having sold more than a million copies in the U.S. and earning Grammy nominations for Album Of The Year (Time Out Of Mind won that award in 1998).

He wrote and recorded "Things Have Changed" for the 2000 film Wonder Boys, for which he received both the Academy Award and Golden Globe. The first volume of his memoirs, Chronicles, was one of the most acclaimed and best-selling non-fiction works of 2004, and last year's No Direction Home film, directed by Martin Scorsese, captivated audiences worldwide as it documented Dylan's early career and rise to fame. The film won a Peabody Award in 2006.

Bob Dylan's weekly XM Satellite Radio show, Theme Time Radio Hour, debuted in May and has quickly become one of that network's most popular programs.
