| Bo Diddley will headline Kansas City Music Blues & Jazz Festival Organizers of the 2006 Kansas City Music Blues & Jazz Festival have signed the legendary Bo Diddley to headline the popular Kansas City event, scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 2-3 at The Woodlands, I-435 and Leavenworth Rd. in Kansas City, KS. In addition to Diddley, the event will showcase 24 stellar musical acts over two days, including the band Proto-Kaw, the most recent incarnation of the members of the highly successful rock band, Kansas. Show organizers are prepped to fill the Woodland's 30, 000 seats, which boasts one of the more comfortable music appreciation venues in the metro area. "We've got Bo and we are on our way to rockin' this city over Labor Day weekend, " says Mark Valentine, show organizer, founder and himself a professional musician. "We heard you Kansas City! You said you wanted the Blues & Jazz Fest back to where it belongs, and we're honoring your request." Bo Diddley is truly one of the country's most "legendary" musicians, with more than 50 years in the music industry. His crucial role in the birth of Rock & Roll and his impact on the direction of popular music ever since has proven that he indeed has earned his title of "The Originator." Alongside the plaque for his 1987 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Bo's mantelpiece has also become more crowded in recent years with numerous "lifetime achievement" awards presented at prestigious events, including the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Pioneer Awards (1996), the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Grammy Awards (1998), and the National Association of Black-Owned Broadcasters' Communications Awards (2002). According to Valentine, Saturday, Sept. 2nd is expected to draw the biggest crowd of the two-day concert event. For $17.50 per person, music lovers can spend the entire day mellowing to the sounds of blues and jazz from bands such as Moutin Reunion direct from Paris, France, The Latin Jazz All Stars, Baby Lee and the Kansas City All Stars and Fast Johnny Ricker. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Jazz News :: home page |
