Brandon Ross And Blazing Beauty In Final Summergarden Jazz Concert

Summergarden, The Museum of Modern Art's free concert series in The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, presents its final summer concert with Brandon Ross and Blazing Beauty, organized in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, on Sunday, August 13, 2006.

The quartet premieres Saturation, a piece from their forthcoming album to be released this December. Brandon Ross and Blazing Beauty comprises Brandon Ross, guitars, banjo and vocals; Stomu Takeishi, acoustic bass guitar; JT Lewis, drums; and Graham Haynes, cornet.

Brandon Ross is a guitarist, composer, singer, and songwriter. He has worked and recorded with Cassandra Wilson, Henry Threadgill, Jewel, The Lounge Lizards, Me'Shell Ndegocello, Leroy Jenkins, Arrested Development, Michelle Branch, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others. He crafts a personal approach to jazz guitar and improvisation that has taken him all over the world.

Blazing Beauty is an acoustic-based quartet for which Mr. Ross plays banjo and acoustic, electric, and soprano guitars; he uses cornet, acoustic bass guitar, and a drum set to extend his expressive field into folk-oriented musics and compositional approaches that communicate his dedication to fresh a musical experience. Their album Costume was released under the Intoxicated Records (Japan) label in 2005.

Summergarden has been a MoMA tradition since 1971. Since 1993, Summergarden has been a joint effort with The Juilliard School, under the artistic direction of Joel Sachs, and is joined for a second year by Jazz at Lincoln Center. The six-week series of concerts alternates Juilliard and Jazz at Lincoln Center performances every Sunday through August 13, 2006.
